Egypt presents a new PA reconciliation plan

Egyptian intelligence chiefs have proposed a gradual reconciliation plan that will last for several years, at the end of which Hamas' military wing will be transferred to the Palestinian Authority, according to a report by Israel Defense Forces Radio. Hamas is ready to consider the proposal in the affirmative, and now the Egyptians are waiting for the PA to respond.

According to the plan, formulated in recent months, the PA will assume civilian responsibility for Gaza, which includes control over government ministries and full management of the economy. At a later stage, the PA will assume responsibility for maintaining order (the police), and only after a few years, if all goes well, will Hamas transfer its military wing to the PA. In the meantime, elections will be held for the Palestinian parliament and a new constitution will be passed.
