Paul Haggis submits appeal in extortion case against accuser
Director Paul Haggis — who filed a lawsuit against a woman who accused
him of rape, claiming extortion — had his case dismissed by a judge in
July but is seeking a reversal.
Haggis submitted an appeal this week, claiming “severe emotional distress.”
His lawyers tell us accuser Haleigh Breest’s team “confronted him with a
draft complaint containing false and scandalous accusations that they
threatened to publicly file unless he paid her $9 million.”
A letter reported by Page Six in January from Breest’s lawyers to
Haggis’ rep said, “You repeatedly asked for a financial demand . . .
Then, in an attempt to silence and retaliate against Ms. Breest, you and
Mr. Haggis sued her for having settlement discussions.”
Haggis’ case was dismissed, but Breest’s been allowed to move ahead with a countersuit regarding the alleged assault.
Haggis has denied the claims.
