LeBron James says he wasn't dissing Kobe Bryant with Drake lyric
LeBron James says he didn’t mean to diss Kobe or wife Vanessa Bryant
when he riffed on a Rick Ross and Drake tune that infamously made a
comment about them.

“I do know that when [Drake] said it, it was about Kobe Bryant, but Kobe
Bryant wasn’t even in my thoughts,” James told the Hollywood Reporter
about an awards speech he made at Fashion Week. “I got way too much
respect not only for Kobe but for Vanessa . . . That’s so below me. That
would have been like a Donald Trump remark.”
Page Six previously reported that Drake pal James dredged up the old
beef to praise his own wife, Savannah, while he made a speech at the
Harlem’s Fashion Row style awards.
Accepting the Icon 360 Award, James said of Savannah, “We have been down
since high school. I listen to a lot of rap music, and a good friend of
mine said a lyric: ‘You wasn’t with me shooting in the gym,’ but in all
actuality, Savannah was with me shooting in the gym before I had
absolutely nothing. [Sic] So thank you, and I will love her forever for
that.”
Way back in 2012, Drake caused a stir by suggesting Bryant’s
then-estranged wife, Vanessa, didn’t deserve half of Kobe’s money if
they split, rapping on Rick Ross’ “Stay Schemin’ ”: “Bitch, you wasn’t
with me shootin’ in the gym.”
Vanessa responded back then by saying, “I don’t need to be in the gym.
I’m raising our daughters, signing checks and taking care of everything
else that pertains to our home life.”
