Finance Minister, Kemi Adeosun reportedly resigns
Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, has reportedly resigned her appointment.
Reports says it is not clear when the Minister submitted her resignation letter.
Adeosun’s resignation is coming after an allegation that she forged her National Youth Service Corps certificate.
DAILY POST had reported that Adeosun, who graduated from London East
Polytechnic at the age of 22 in 1989, failed to comply with NYSC Act,
which made it compulsory for every Nigerian graduate at home or abroad
to participate in one year of mandatory service to the nation.
However, When DAILY POST contacted the Ministry for confirmation, a source who does not want his name in print
promised to revert with details.
Another source in the ministry told DAILY POST thus; ”Yes, the report is
likely to be true. You know this can’t be confirmed yet unless she
makes the announcement officially. ”
Recall that the NYSC had said that from their records, Adeosun applied
for an exemption certificate, but, however, failed to state whether the
request was granted or not.
But, the Presidency in its first reaction to the Saga said it hopes the
certificate forgery allegation against the Minister of Finance would
soon be proven to be false, and added that investigations were ongoing.
President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesperson, Garba Shehu, was quoted as
saying “The Minister of Information has spoken on the matter. And a
process is ongoing to address the allegations. When that process is
complete, Nigerians will know the outcome.
“Some people want a particular outcome and because they are yet to see
this outcome, they are not happy. Give it (investigation) time. There is
a process ongoing, ” Shehu said.
