Bangkok, Thailand (CNN) -- Thai Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra called for talks Monday to resolve demonstrations against her government that turned violent over the weekend.
Reiterating that police would not use violence against protesters, Yingluck said in a televised news conference that the door was open for negotiations to make "peace with the majority of the people of Thailand."
The leader of the anti-government demonstrations, Suthep Thaugsuban, on Sunday urged Yingluck to resign, saying he was giving her two days to "return power to the people unconditionally.
