Nigerian cook who survived three days trapped in a sunken boat tells of ordeal

Harrison Okene's incredible story began when the tugboat he and 11 crewmembers were working on sank to the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean, leaving him alone in an airpocket with a dwindling supply of oxygen

The man who survived for three days in an upended tugboat at the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean says he spent his time "praying, praying, praying."

Harrison Odjegba Okene was eventually rescued by a team of Dutch divers looking for the bodies of the 12 crewmembers aboard when the Jascon 4 sank in May.

"I thought of my family, I thought of my mum, my brothers, my wife. I have access to none of them, no way to get to them, and I was right there in the water and I know I'm going to die," the 29-year-old said. "But the only thing I could put my hope and trust in, and my confidence in, is God."

The Nigerian cook survived by breathing an ever-dwindling supply of oxygen in an air pocket.

A video of Okene's rescue in May that was posted on the Internet more than six months later went viral this month.
